The World of Economics and Finance

Welcome to the Department of Economics and Finance at the University of Wyoming.

Economics is the science of efficient allocation and is at the heart of any efficiently operating nation, business, or organization. Modern business is characterized by its emphasis on finance. The application of sound financial management principles often makes the difference between success and failure in business.

With the disciplines of economics and finance together in one department, our professors work together in research and teaching to develop a strong educational environment. Many of our professors who are internationally known bring a plethora of views and ideas to the classroom. Degrees offered in the Department of Economics and Finance include a bachelor of science, master of science, and Ph.D.

Scientists have argued that invasive species can be managed most cost effectively with greater investments in prevention. Further, under ideas like the precautionary principle it is reasonable to expect that a cautious manager would use more prevention relative to control because it keeps more invaders out.
