Learning Goals
College of Business Mission Statement
The College of Business prepares students for careers by providing quality
education in business disciplines, creating and disseminating knowledge, and by
assisting in Wyoming’s economic development. The College of Business expects the
highest level of integrity from our administration, faculty, staff, students,
and alumni.
Philosophy
The College of Business strives toward this mission through four basic tenets:
- We focus on personal interaction among students, faculty, and staff.
- We strive for distinction in three primary areas—Environment and Natural
Resources, Entrepreneurship, and Ethics.
- We favor interactive learning enhanced with opportunities for student
interaction with the business community.
- We are committed to providing our students with the skills necessary for
career exploration and job placement.
Learning Objectives
The Department of Economics and Finance contributes to the mission and
philosophy of the College of Business by providing business economics,
economics, and finance expertise for teaching, research, and support in these
disciplines. The learning objectives for graduates of our program are:
Economics and Finance Undergraduate Program Objectives
- Students must demonstrate good written, oral and electronic
communication skills.
- Students must demonstrate good technical communication skills.
- Students must demonstrate good quantitative reasoning, mathematical and
technical skills.
- Students must demonstrate independent and individual learning skills.
- Students must demonstrate critical thinking and problem solving
abilities.
- Students will demonstrate awareness of various international, global,
and social perspectives.
- Students must demonstrate an awareness and understanding of professional
and ethical responsibilities.
Economics and Finance Master’s Program Objectives
- Students must demonstrate knowledge and understanding of advanced
theoretical principles within their disciple.
- Students must demonstrate knowledge and ability to use advanced
quantitative and statistical skills to solve economics or finance
problems.
- Students must demonstrate knowledge and understanding of advanced
theoretical principles for a specialization within their discipline.
- Students must link data, knowledge and insights to create original
research.
- Students must present ideas orally in an effective manner to a
professional audience.
- Students must present ideas in writing in an effective manner to a
professional audience.
PhD in Economics Objectives
- Students must demonstrate knowledge and understanding of advanced
principles in microeconomic and macroeconomic theory.
- Students must demonstrate knowledge and ability to use advanced
quantitative and statistical skills to solve economics problems.
- Students must demonstrate knowledge and understanding of advanced
theoretical principles for at least two specializations within economics.
- Students must link data, knowledge and insights to create original
research.
- Students must present ideas orally in an effective manner to a
professional audience.
- Students must present ideas in writing in an effective manner to a
professional audience.
