What are the benefits of receiving an MS in accounting from UW? - Top
The M.S. in accounting degree not only meets the statutory requirements to allow students to sit for the CPA exam in most jurisdictions, it also does an excellent job of preparing you to pass the exam. Furthermore, completion of the MS Accounting program satisfies the 150 hour requirement embedded in the concept of "substantial equivalency." Under "substantial equivalency," the license granted by the state of one's "principal place of business" enables an individual CPA to practice across state lines, physically or via electronic technology, without requiring him or her to obtain a reciprocal license, as long as the original state of licensure is deemed "substantially equivalent." If a CPA moves or relocates his or her principal place of business to another state and establishes a practice or employment there, then the CPA must obtain a reciprocal license in that state. However, in this case, the application process would be streamlined if the CPA comes from a "substantially equivalent" state. Recent legislation in Wyoming has resulted in "substantial equivalency" between Wyoming and a majority of the remaining jurisdictions. Even if you aren't interested in becoming a CPA, our M.S. program will provide you with valuable skills and knowledge to further your career options.
