What materials need to be sent to the department? - Top

We need to receive three letters of recommendation, official GRE/GMAT/TOEFL scores, and, if applicable, an application for assistantship. Your application and official transcripts should be sent to the Graduate School. Please send only the materials mentioned above directly to the address listed above.

 

 

How many graduate students are currently enrolled? - Top

In our 2008-2009 academic year, we have 24 Ph.D. students and 26 master's students.

 

 

Who receives assistantships? - Top

Most of our PhD candidates receive full assistantships.  Some MS students receive assistantships and scholarships.

 

 

What are the total fees and tuition? - Top

What is the completion time for a PhD or masters? - Top

On average it takes four to five years to complete your PhD and three to four semesters to complete a masters degree.

 

 

What is UW's ETS code? - Top

The code for the GRE is 4855 to send to the University of Wyoming and 1801 to send it to the Economics and Finance department.  The code for the GMAT is SHN-OR-04 for MS Econ, SHN-OR-82 for MS Fin, and SHN-OR-90 for Dual MS.

 

 

Can the TOEFL be waived? - Top

The TOEFL may be waived if you have received a bachelors degree within the last year from a U.S. institution or an institution abroad with all instruction given in English. Please keep in mind that your TOEFL scores may still be requested at any time.

 

 

Can the GMAT scores be taken in place of GRE? - Top

The GMAT can take the place of the GRE for MS Finance applicants. The GRE is required for all Economics applicants.

 

 

What are the minimum required test scores on the GRE and GMAT? - Top

The required test scores for the GRE are 1100 for admission to the PhD program and 1000 for admission to the MS program.  The required GMAT score for admission to the MS Finance program is 550.  See the graduate school's website for TOEFL requirements.  Note that the minimum test requirement does not guarantee admission to the program.

 

 

Can I apply for spring semester? - Top

We do not accept PhD applicants for the spring semester.  MS students are able to start in the spring under approval by the selection committee and graduate director.

 

 

What is the deadline for Fall 2010 admission? - Top

March 1, 2010.

 

 

What is the amount of taxes that will be taken out of my stipend? - Top

For domestic students the Payroll Office will calculate how much tax will be withheld based on the information each individual has given them such as number of deductions, dependents, etc.  International students need to contact the tax office at 307-766-2821 due to the different IRS regulations.
